Session Description: Mentor coaching plays an increasingly critical role in the development and credentialing of professional coaches. Yet mentor coaches often face a difficult challenge: how to help coaches develop mastery while honoring the unique ways coaches naturally show up in coaching conversations. This session introduces RESPECT Styles, a research-backed framework that offers mentor coaches a powerful lens for observing, developing, and supporting coaches as they progress toward professional mastery.
Derived from the doctoral work of David Morelli, PhD, MCC who researched over a dozen of the world’s best coaches, the framework identifies seven coaching styles that represent different ways coaches create value in coaching interactions.
For mentor coaches, the framework provides a structured way to: • Observe coaching interactions more precisely • Identify coach strengths and developmental opportunities • Provide clearer developmental feedback • Support coaches in expanding their range of coaching approaches
Participants will explore how coaching styles align with and support the development of several ICF Core Competencies, including Maintains Presence, Listens Actively, Evokes Awareness, and Facilitates Client Growth.
The session will be co-presented with Jonathan Reitz, MCC, an experienced mentor coach who has spent almost two decades supporting coaches pursuing ICF credentials.
Participants will experience a live demonstration of the framework, analyze real mentor coaching scenarios, and explore how coaching styles can enhance mentor coaching conversations.
Attendees will leave with a practical framework that supports coach development while empowering coaches to bring their authentic voice and strengths into coaching interactions.
This session provides mentor coaches with new developmental language, observational tools, and feedback approaches that strengthen the mentor coaching process.
