The Human Edge is a 90-minute interactive session for coaches who want to respond to AI’s rapid growth and find their place in the future. The premise is simple: We know AI can already produce competent, model-driven coaching for structured goals, and it will keep improving. So, the question isn’t “Can AI coach?” The better question is, “What do humans do in coaching and how can that create deeper partnering, allow for transformation, and lasting impact?”
Participants will explore where they see human coaching creating distinctive value. The session explores the “human edge”—the nuances of humor, empathy, connection, language, context, and metaphors that only humans can appreciate and understand.
We will begin by exploring real-world feedback on what people actually experience when they use AI as a coach, mapping out what AI tends to do well: structure, speed, and clean frameworks. Then, participants will watch a human coaching demonstration. The contrast is not “AI is bad, humans are good.” The contrast is what becomes possible when a living coach creates the relational field for a coaching conversation.
Breakout discussions will help participants identify the specific behaviors that created shifts and translate their insights into tools each coach can use immediately to calibrate their practice. What are the core differences between an AI interaction and human coaching? And where do each of us need to develop?
Learning Objectives::
Reframing the profession's biggest question: Shifting from “Can AI coach?” to “What human capacities create deeper partnering and support transformation, even when AI is competent?”
Contrasting the AI experience with human partnership: Navigating feedback on what AI handles well (structure, goal-specific steps) versus experiencing what is uniquely possible when a human coach enters the relational field.
Identifying observable “human” relational behaviors: Spotting how the pace, use of silence, tracking shifts in emotion/energy, humor, client language, and inviting choice all support a thinker's autonomy and growth.
